Our
Sports Blog, which is by far our biggest, is now running in Movable Type. This involved importing from Blogger using the
BloggerImporter plugin. My test import actually worked better than the final one. This is because I did not realize that the import process did not create categories (so if you are going to do the same thing, just make your categories in MT first).
Just because we are no longer using Blogger for the Sports Blog does not mean Blogger users cannot still comment. Thanks to the wonders of OpenID, when you sign in to comment here just use your blog name:
blogname.blogspot.com.
Hit the jump to hear some more technical issues involved in bringing a Blogger blog into MT.
The Sports Blog is about 1800 entries and only 100 or so comments. Using BloggerImporter to import the blog into MT 4.23 worked great when I tested it, but that time I had made the categories before hand. Since there is no "undo" on the import process, and there are numberous other issues with the import, I decided not to import again.
Here are the issues with using BloggerImporter 0.3 on a MT 4.23 Blog:
- Categories are not created, and thus not set
- Blogger Categories get placed into MT Tags field
- Open comments in Blogger are turned off when imported to MT
- Author names are imported, Display Name field is blank
Other than that, it went well! All kidding asside, we have a little touch-up work to do, but the BG News Sports staff is already using the new blog, so
go check it out.
